Lila’s Appleton’s debut cozy monster novel gave me all the warm fuzzies. Laini and Romulus were easy characters to love. Laini has sworn off relationships following a bad break-up and Romulus is dead set on staying single because of his dark past with his stone magic. Luckily for us and them, some fun meddling friends and a cute magical pet get sparks to fly.

This book had me (and Romulus) seething mad at shitty ex-boyfriends and rooting for love to overcome fears. I appreciated how emotionally mature both characters were, even though I wanted to smack Rom over the head at one point.

This was a great introduction to the Leafshire universe. The detailed descriptions of the world were too much for me at times, but I’m genuinely excited for the next adventure!

“You’re perfect.

I’m no such thing.

No one is, really. But, I think you might be a version of perfect for me.”
